Let’s start with some good news. As of this morning I lost a total of 36.9 Lbs.
Unfortunately last week Monday I started having terrible back pain and spasms. I was prescribed Valium & Naproxen and was sent for X-rays on Thursday.
On Friday afternoon after the doctor received the results of the X-ray he prescribed Percocet (Oxycodone) since the other meds were not helping with the pain and I was still in bed.
Saturday night a friend called and asked how the Oxi was working and since it wasn’t helping very much he said he would come over with something to try and help me with the pain. A few hours later he came over with a joint that I smoked too much of and got severe anxiety and a little psychosis, Even in that state of mind I realized the best thing for me was to go to sleep and when I woke up in the morning the pain wasn’t gone but it was not as severe and I was able to get out of bed and do basic functions.
I was very thirsty and hungry but stuck to drinking only water till the afternoon and then had 2 slices of toasted Manna sprouted bread and a salad, The headache seemed to go away overnight.
I had an MRI done this Monday and my doctor wants me to start physical therapy on my back due to some herniated discs and some other findings. As i researched treatments I came across the name of Dr. John E. Sarno who wrote a few books on the subject of back pain but unfortunately is not alive any longer. His first book on the subject is called Mind Over Back Pain: A Radically New Approach to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Back Pain.
As I am not a very quick reader I started looking for a doctor who practices Dr. Sarno’s approach and found a Dr. Ira G. Rashbaum at NYU. Unfortunately the earliest appointment I was able to get was for Apr 16th and since I am not in the mood of suffering till then I continued my research into the matter and found that there is a Rabbi in Boro Park who gives a monthly seminar on the technique of Dr. Sarno.
I called him last night to find out when and where the next seminar would be and he advised that the next one would actually be that night in his home basement at 7:30PM.
I dropped everything I was doing and headed to his house, More on the actual seminar in another post but I will just say I got up from the chair with 10 times less pain then when i walked in and all he did was talk to a crowd of people.
I will try to write more about the seminar in another post but for now I am signing off.
